Legislative Updates

The health care industry is affected substantially by legislation at both the State and Federal level.  Legislative decisions can have a substantial impact on how you receive care, what medical procedures will be covered by insurance and ultimately what you pay in premiums.  Today the United States spends two trillion dollars annually, which represents 16% of the economy, on health care.  That cost is expected to double in the next 10 years.  Because the cost of care is so far-reaching and affects so many Americans, strategies to contain that cost are a heavily debated topic.

Although there is federal legislation that affects health care and insurance, the bulk of insurance regulation comes from the individual states.  Many initiatives are underway across the nation as states struggle with the problem of providing health care to their citizens.  We feel that it is important to monitor these legislative initiatives because successes and failures by individual states create an enormous education opportunity for this country.  The lessons learned today will ultimately affect the direction we all go in the future.
